ABOUT US

It All Starts Here

Margie Hartung Music/Greenhouse Enrichment and PCYO is a threefold visual, performing arts, and core enrichment program located in Placer County CA. Our threefold mission is to meet the tangible needs of the community through charitable projects, to collaborate with others in creative and artistic excellence, and to come alongside parents to help grow a generation of wise and excellent students, musicians, artists and human beings. Our three parts are:

  1. MHM – Private music instruction in piano, violin, cello, viola, bass, French horn and trumpet

  2. PCYO Orchestra and Performing arts via group classes and Placer County Youth Orchestras

  3. GREENHOUSE ENRICHMENT – Homeschool Enrichment Classes that include music, performing arts, visual arts and core classes.

Our threefold mission is carried out in the following ways:

  1. In meeting the real needs of the community, PCYO has an annual, “All I Want for Christmas” concert that chooses a charity to raise money for in the proceeds of the Christmas Concert. We have raised money for AIM, Nevaeh’s Hope, Mikey’s Luggage (Koinonia Foster Home), Kenya Hope (raising $ for missions in Kenya), The Gathering Inn and others. Not only does the orchestra play but the choirs and musicians from Greenhouse Enrichment also sing and play for these events that so benefit our community

  2. In our collaborations we have had so many it is too numerous to count. PCYO as well as Greenhouse Enrichment students (at selected times) have partnered with William Jessup, Northern California Children’s Chorus, Lincoln High and Olympus Choirs, played in pit Orchestra's  and more. Our musicians play both as individuals and in groups for church worship services and we have partnered with Ballet Rejoice as well Auburn Symphony in the Park every September. These things are so enriching for all involved and foster community and integration between the generations as well. Students from Greenhouse have the enrichment of singing with live orchestra, playing in our concerts and participating in incredible events they would not have access to otherwise.

  3. Finally, our goal in all this is to create excellent students, musicians, artists and human beings. We believe in the wise saying “Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old, they will not turn from it."  It is our goal to come alongside parents in support and to teach in a way that students will truly learn and thrive.

History:

Margie Hartung began teaching private music lessons in 1996 and soon was asked to build a string program in the Eureka School District. In 1997 she began teaching classes as a vendor with Horizon Charter School at several locations. While the classes continued, the more advanced students eventually grew and developed into the Placer County Youth Orchestra which is a full 60-member symphonic Orchestra for youth in Placer County. In addition, there is PCYI intermediate orchestra that meets in Rocklin and develops students to graduate into the Advanced PCYO Symphony.

Margie taught string classes, history and other music-based classes at Horizon until 2008. After that, she continued as a vendor at Horizon and subsequent charters, teaching performing arts and core classes independently as well as with enrichment centers such as Inspire and Bluedoor.

In 2020 our team began GREENHOUSE ENRICHMENT.  We meet on Fridays at Westside Christian Church in Roseville. Our kickoff season began with the musical Narnia and a live pit orchestra. Since then, we have expanded our classes to include excellent quality performing arts, art and classes for littles.. Our enrichment program is made up of qualified teachers who share our vision and want to partner in bringing up a generation of wise and discerning adults.

Margie Hartung has been "passing the baton"  25 years and out of that has grown competent leadership and to step up and add new classes on Tuesday/Thursday with a leaning to highlight and art within the core classes. In addition, we are adding a sports program to create a well rounded curriculum. The staff are artists who also understand the basic tenants of homeschooling in order to teach children in "the way they learn" with good quality curriculum.

Our programs integrate with one another in an amazing way to bring a student from the very beginning of their journey to a well balanced and competent transition to# the adult world
